The 2018 Fogle Author Series presents its final author, David Giffels, who will speak at Rodman Public Library on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 2:00 p.m., in the Main Auditorium. Giffels is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir, Furnishing Eternity: A Father, a Son, a Coffin, and a Measure of Life, published in 2018. The book has been hailed by the New York Times Book Review as "tender, witty and ... painstakingly and subtly wrought." His previous books include The Hard Way on Purpose: Essays and Dispatches From the Rust Belt (2014), a New York Times Book Review “Editors' Choice” and nominee for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay, and the memoir All the Way Home, winner of the Ohioana Book Award. His writing has appeared in many publications including the New York Times Magazine, Parade, and the Wall Street Journal. Giffels is an associate professor of English at the University of Akron, where he teaches creative nonfiction in the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts Program. Books will be available for purchase at the time of the author’s visit which he will then sign after the program. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is needed.
