The 2016 Fogle Author Series continues with author Dr. Mary Doria Russell who will speak at Rodman Public Library on Monday, Sept. 26 , at 7:00 p.m., in the Main Auditorium. “Dr. Mary Doria Russell has been widely praised for meticulous research, and the compelling narrative drive of her stories. Born in suburban Chicago to a Navy nurse and Marine Corps drill sergeant, she and her younger brother developed a dismaying vocabulary at an early age. She studied cultural anthropology at the University of Illinois; social anthropology at Northeastern University in Boston; and received her Ph.D. in biological anthropology from the University of Michigan.
She is the award-winning author of six bestselling novels, including the science fiction classics The Sparrow and Children of God; the Pulitzer-nominated World War II thriller, A Thread of Grace; and a political romance set in 1921 Cairo called Dreamers of the Day. With her latest novels, Doc and Epitaph: A Novel of the O.K. Corral, Russell has redefined two towering figures of the American West: the lawman Wyatt Earp, and the dental surgeon Doc Holliday”. Dr. Russell is a recent winner of the 2016 Ohioana Book Awards for Fiction for her novel Epitaph. The Ohioana Awards, established in 1942, honor Ohio authors in five categories, and are among the oldest state literary prizes in the nation. It is recognition of excellence. She also received the 2016 “Readers’ Choice Award” from Ohioana for Epitaph. Russell and her husband reside near Cleveland, Ohio.”
