Name: John Whitacre and Beth Gray in Concert at Rodman Library
Date: February 10, 2018
Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST
Event Description:
Join us for an afternoon concert on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m., with John Whitacre and Beth Gray as they perform traditional music of the British Isles specializing in tunes popular in colonial America on violin, mandolin family instruments, and guitar. Their music is a Baroque-Celtic hybrid, a style played in the British Isles in the1700s, arranging traditional tunes in a Baroque style. They also play fife and bagpipe marches; English, Scottish, and Irish jigs, reels, and hornpipes; the slow, hauntingly beautiful airs that constitute a large part of the Celtic repertoire, and tunes written by Whitacre in the style of 18th-century Scottish music. Whitacre lives near Canton and works at Rodman Library Branch, having worked for 14 years for the Alliance Review. Beth lives in Washington Township. She is a retired music teacher and works as a carpenter. The concert is free and open to the public in Rodman Library Main Auditorium. No registration is needed.
