The Stark County Humane Society will be bringing kittens or puppies or both, or lovable adult cats or dogs to Rodman Library on Saturday, May 7, from 2 to 5 p.m., for a Pet Adoption Drive. The Humane Society is a private, charitable organization. It is not a county agency and does not receive funding from the United Way. Its continued success depends upon the support of the community through membership fees, gifts, and contributions. The shelter is open to the public daily except for holidays, and takes in sick and injured cats and dogs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Pets that are adopted may be taken home the same day from this event. The Humane Society asks that the adopter be 18 years of age or older, and that all members of the household come in to make sure it’s a suitable fit for all and their home environment. The adoption fees are as follows: Under a year old is $80; 1 to 5 years is $75; 5 to 8 years is $65, and 8 to 12 years is $60. The fees also include the animals being microchipped (10 weeks or older) and their first initial vaccines. The adopter will receive an incentive allowance to help cover the cost of having the animal spayed or neutered and all adopters receive a free initial veterinarian visit that waives the office visit fee. The adopters will have to pay for any testing, medications, or vaccinations. While visiting the pets for adoption, there will also be a Pet Storytime program from 3 to 3:30 p.m., in the Childrens’ Program Room for anyone, any age, who wants to attend.
Rodman Library is also offering “Pet Items for Fines” through the month of May. The recipient of this collection will be the Stark County Humane Society. For every item donated, $2.00 in fines will be forgiven from a patron’s record. Items on the Humane Society’s “Spring Wish List” are dry and canned dog food, canned cat food, cat litter, leashes, bleach, dish soap, plastic dish pans, pillow cases, PetLac Milk Replacement, brooms and dust pans, rubbing alcohol, liquid hand soap, hand sanitizer, and Ziploc freezer bags. No lost or damaged items will be included in the fines, or fees associated with Search Ohio materials. Food items donated will not be accepted if they are past the expiration date. This program is open to the public. For more information, call the library at 330-821-2665, ext. 107.
