Calling all teens, ages 12-18. Join us on Thursday, June 16, from 3:00-5:00 p.m., in Rodman’s Main Auditorium for an exciting afternoon of Library Olympics as we play a series of different library-themed events. The Library Olympics opens with all teens creating their own country flag to represent them in the games then teens proceed to Event One: Relay Race. In this event, teens are divided into groups of three and compete by navigating an obstacle course while steering a half-full book cart.
Event Two: Head Book Carry challenges teens to walk to one end of the room, pick a book and place it on their head. They must then carry the book on their head to the opposite end of the room without the book falling off—if the book falls off, they must start over. Once the opposite end of the room is reached, teens must place the book on a shelf in the proper order it would be located on a library shelf. After placing the book, they must race back and continue grabbing books until all books have been placed in their proper order.
Event Three: Scavenger Hunt has teens using iPads or smart phones to take pictures of assorted items they must find within the library. In Event Four: Blind Beach Volleyball, teens are divided into groups of two or three to compete. This plays like normal volleyball except with a twist. The net will be covered so the only thing visible will be the ball being tossed over the net.
Medals will be awarded at the end of each event. There will be a closing ceremony recapping the medal count after which ice cream will be served. No registration is needed for this free event. This program is supported by Friends of Rodman Library. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 214.
