The History of Amateur Radio with Ron Rittenhouse at RPL

Ron Rittenhouse, president of the Alliance Amateur Radio Club, will present The History of Amateur Radio on Monday, Apr. 22, at 7 p.m., in Rodman Library’s Main Auditorium. The presentation features the concepts and functions of amateur radio, also known as ham radio. It is an avocation enjoyed by over 700,000 Americans and millions more worldwide. The Alliance Amateur Radio Club (W8LKY) is celebrating 49 years of continuous service to the greater Alliance area. Amateur radio clubs, regulated by the Federal Communications Commission, serve their communities in time of emergency and also provide communications for community events. A lifelong Alliance resident, Rittenhouse graduated from the University of Phoenix, Alliance High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1960-64. He served on the former Alliance United Way Board of Directors and on the Carnation Festival Board as Parade Chairman from 1980-83. In 1983, Rittenhouse received the Carnation City Citizen of the Year Award. He is involved with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 177 as a chaplain and on the troop committee. A 63-year member of the First Christian Church of Alliance, he serves as church historian, men’s fellowship president and on the outreach committee.
